"Once a Year"

by Bill Knittel

Hear Ye, Hear Ye, one and all,
Come and listen to the call,
Tell your family, tell a friend,
It's Light Up Lakewood time again;

Join us in downtown Lakewood,
December Sixth, Two Thousand Eight,
In front of Lakewood Hospital,
The lighting fantasy first rate;

Stroll down Detroit Avenue,
Enjoy Christmas in each store,
With special sales, special gifts,
Refreshments and much more;

You'll see different entertainment,
as you travel down the street,
You'll see children's smiling faces,
Hear the patter of their feet;

Or enjoy a thrill from yesteryear,
That will warm up your insides,
Brining out your Christmas spirit,
On horse drawn carriage rides;

Yes, hear the sounds of Christmas,
That will fill your hearts desires,
From Lakewood Schools rousing band,
And their cheerful Christmas Choirs;

Then off to Lakewood Public Library,
Where fun and learning never ends,
As children's smiles burst across their face,
With Santa and his friends;

So don't forget or you'll regret,
Missing Lakewood's Spectacular of Cheer,
And as was said in years gone bye,
This comes but once a year.
